Cristian Bertuca archives the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship with a strong performance despite the unfortunate epilogue.

The finale of the first FIA Karting European Championship weekend did not smile on Cristian Bertuca, by all accounts among the best in KZ2 and expected protagonist also in the second round at Sarno. The “Cannibal” had started his second European Championship in the queen class in the best possible way, placing himself +0.055sec off the overall pole position, securing the second best time and above all the pole position in Group B, fundamental for the five heats in the programme.

Five heats that, as mentioned, confirmed Bertuca’s great pace and all his potential. He was able to win three out of five heats, having to give up his fourth win due to a penalty after a mistake at the start (P7 at the end) and an unlucky 24th place after a mistake during the first lap and a penalty. Elements that did not affect Cristian’s concentration, who was constantly among the best on the track and constant even in Sunday morning’s Superheat, which ended in fourth place.

The first European KZ2 final of 2023 then saw Cristian battle excellently at the top of the group, fighting for the top five. The Birel Art driver then had to end his race prematurely due to a forced retirement when he was still in the battle. A bitter result that does not erase the good things done throughout the weekend and projects Cristian to the next races with even more awareness, starting from the last round of the WSK Super Master Series in Cremona and the subsequent second round of the FIA European Championship in Sarno.
