Cristian Bertuca rounds off the FIA Karting KZ2 European Championship from the third step of the podium at Sarno. A high-level weekend for the “Cannibal”, fourth in the general classification.
At the Circuito Internazionale Napoli, Cristian Bertuca did not disappoint his expectations with a high level weekend, able to make up for the unfortunate first leg at Zuera.
A lot of speed and consistency for the Birel Art driver, who was immediately protagonist of the top positions during the great work carried out together with the team and in Friday’s qualifying practice. Lap times to the limit for all drivers and sixth was Bertuca’s best time, useful for starting from pole position in Group F.
In the demanding heat programme, Cristian was able to make the difference by expressing his excellent race pace, winning four out of five heats, completed by a good third place. Important placings also in terms of points collected for the general classification and obviously valid for the start from the pole position of the Super Heat A on Sunday morning.
The last day of the FIA Karting European Championship 2023 saw Bertuca rewarded for his consistency. A hard-fought Super Heat for Cristian, who was able to maximise the result by closing in third place and with the second starting row for the final already in his pocket.
The final twenty laps of the Sarno weekend then closed the FIA-branded European season in style. It was an excellent start for Bertuca, immediately second in turn one and attacking for first position. As the laps went by, the ‘Cannibal’ was able to hold on and animate the fine battle with his team-mates for the top positions, closing with third place overall under the chequered flag, also completing the splendid Birel Art hat-trick. A result that repays Bertuca for all the efforts of the weekend and the bad luck of Zuera at the beginning of the year. With the points collected at Sarno, the Milanese driver ended the overall standings in fourth place overall, just a step away from third.
C.Bertuca: “It was a good weekend for me and the team. The speed we had allowed me to be constantly in front and win four out of five heats. It’s a shame about the final, I would have liked to have fought even harder for the win, but third place repays, in any case, for all the work done together with the team. My compliments to Freddie Slater for winning the title and obviously to the whole Birel Art for the absolute domination at Sarno and the hat-trick in the race. Maximum concentration ahead of the World Championship in September in Germany. I would like to thank Birel Art, Viti Racing, Luciano Memoli, all my family and obviously my sponsors”.
Cristian Bertuca will be back on track this weekend (14/16 July) for a new round of the Italian ACI Karting Championship on the Val Vibrata track, aiming at the first place in the general classification.
